Looking for a Round of Golf? You've come to the right place! San Antonio is a haven for golfers, regardless of their objectives. Some use golf to relax, others use it as a challenge for perfection, and a lucky few are professionally involved in the sport. Since the golf boom in San Antonio in the early 1990's, the city now has over 40 golf courses or practice greens. These facilities range from public to municipal to private/resort and offer something for everyone -- from the beginner to the expert. And, the city is one of less than a half-dozen in the U.S. cities to host both a PGA tour event and the 50-and-older Champions Tour AT&T championship. The latest addition to the golf courses in San Antonio is located just 20 minutes from the San Antonio International Airport, offering unparalleled golfing in a pristine setting. Two new Tournament Player Club (TPC) courses are being developed at the site of the new JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa which is scheduled to open in January 2010. This facility is located a couple miles east of Hwy 281 and Stone Oak Parkway. (At Highway 281, Stone Oak Parkway becomes TPC Parkway.) This new facility blends world-class golf with world-class luxury and nearby city conveniences. Consisting of two remarkable 18-hole golf courses, The TPC San Antonio has been designed by two of golf’s best-know architects, Pete Dye and Greg Norman. Pete Dye designed the AT&T Canyons Course and Greg Norman, a World Golf Hall of Fame member, designed the AT&T Oaks Course. These TPC San Antonio courses lie on 2,800 rolling acres of the Cibolo Canyons development at the foot of the beautiful Texas Hill Country, where the crystal clear streams, towering oaks, and cedar trees join the majesty of the hills. They will be managed and operated by PGA Tour Golf Course Properties and will accommodate future PGA Tour tournaments. Both of these TPC courses surround the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa and are open to club members and guests of the Hotel and Spa only. The Hill Country Resort itself includes140,000-square-feet of meeting space, two TPC golf courses and a sophisticated spa, plus just about any other amenity you could imagine. The abundance of natural resources found at TCP San Antonio include 900 acres of open spaces, meandering creeks, a bird sanctuary, and plenty of indigenous plants and animals. And the views of the Cibolo Canyons countryside from many places on the courses are simply breathtaking. Constructed under green initiatives, the courses will be certified by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program. The courses also feature a closed loop watering system to catch run-off and recycle it back onto the courses making these two of the most ecologically friendly courses in the US.
