San Antonio Homes for Sale

San Antonio

Besides being one of the fastest growing cities in Texas and the County Seat of Bexar County, San Antonio, TX holds the distinction of being the 7th largest city in the US with more than 1.3 million inhabitants.  The city was founded by Spanish Missionaries in the early 1700's and is best known as the site of the historic Battle of the Alamo.

Rich in Texas history and abounding in famous attractions such as the River Walk, the Alamo, the Tower of the Americas, and Sea World, more than 20 million visitors come to San Antonio each year.  Besides the tourism industry, other key industries of the San Antonio area are healthcare-biomedical research and development, and the military. It is also home to several military installations such as Brooks City-Base, Camp Bullis, Camp Stanley, Fort Sam Houston, Lackland Air Force Base, and Randolph Air Force Base.

Education

San Antonio, TX’s elementary and secondary education is unlike other school systems.  San Antonio has 19 schools districts which operate independently.  Each has its own superintendent, elected board of education, and its own taxing authority.  While being independent from each other, they all are under the Texas Education Agency in Austin.  Total enrollment for students in San Antonio is over 75,000, and there are 54 elementary, 14, middle, and 12 high school facilities to accommodate these students.

Higher education opportunities are accommodated at several institutions such as the University of Texas at San Antonio; Trinity University, a private Presbyterian four-year school offering liberal arts and science degrees; St. Mary’s University, known for its law and business schools; University of the Incarnate Word, known for it’s outstanding nursing programs; and many others as well as junior colleges.  These are just a few of the fine institutions in San Antonio.

Climate in San Antonio
